A note to project developers

The Traditional Territory of the Da'naxda'xw/Awaetlala people  includes the waters of Knight Inlet and all the watersheds, to height of land, that drain into Knight Inlet or the Klinakilini River.

The Da'naxda'xw/Awaetlala have never ceded Title to the Traditional Territory.

Within our Traditional Territory there are culturally significant areas, traditional use areas, registered and unregistered archaeological sites, and other heritage resources that are vitally important to our people.

If you are contemplating commercial activities in our Traditional Territory we recommend that you contact us early in your planning process. While we are not adverse to development, we do intend to protect our cultural and spiritual resources. The nature of these Aboriginal resources may not be immediately obvious.

Also, while we are willing to share the resources in our territory, we also wish to share in the benefits those resources create. Collaborating with us early in your planning process will save everyone time and money.

When visiting our Traditional Territory please respect our Indian Reserves (clearly marked on topographic and marine maps) and to not disturb or remove any objects from any sites you may come across in our territory.

Note that disturbing archaeological sites is prohibited by provincial law.

Contact our office for further information tel: 250-974-2179.
